The Ontario Invitational Sale, 60th Diamond Anniversary

The first Ontario Invitational Sale was held on May 27th, 1965, at Hays Farms International Ltd., Sales Arena, Oakville, ON.
The Sale originated as result of requests from County Clubs to organize and Ontario Consignment Sale, that would be open to breeders across Ontario, Canada and the United States.
The first Ontario Invitational Sale Committee members were: Frank Stenger, Chairman, Grant Butcher, Norman Bagg, Maurice Beaty, Karl E. Haas, Cameron Honderich, Donald McCaig, Cecil Mortson, Francis Redelmeier, George H. Innes, Arden Baker, John D. Thomson and J.D. Oliver. John McCaig, acted as Secretary and made the selection of consignments. The Committee’s goal was to establish an auction that was an outstanding event, offering animals of the highest quality to the public.
The Committee set consignment requirement standards of:
- 10,000 lbs ME Milk or 500 lbs ME Fat
- Classified VG or EX
- Heifers without record, the immediate dam must meet the requirements
The Hon. Harry Hays, Federal Minster of Agriculture, sold 40 head in under two hours for a total of $34,250.00, average $856.00. Two lots, Lindale Echo Flash, consigned by Maurice Beaty and sold to Oxford & District Cattle Breeding Association, and Enniskillen Flash Sparrow, consigned by F. Stenger & Son, sold to Heaven Hill Farm, NY., topped the sale at $2,200.00.
This year, 60th Ontario Invitational Sale will take place on Saturday, April 5th, 2025, at the Grandway Centre, Elora, ON.
